text 17 Jun Can The Ti-Cats Finish “Not Last”?

In short, maybe. There’s a chance. For the last five years, the Ti-Cats have been locked down in the (unfinished) basement and has been wearing the pregnancy clothes and having tea parties with old Cabbage Patch dolls. Don’t worry though; they kept themselves entertained themselves by playing with the cool Tamogotchi they got back in 1999 when they got to hang out with the cool kids.

Here comes the 2009 season and just as every season before there is a glimmer of hope. With perhaps a full year of Quinton ‘Catman’ Porter, the door has creaked open slightly and it’s up to the Tabbies to put together a season that gets them some CFL Eastern Division real estate. Maybe not the penthouse that the dynamic duo of Calvillio and Cahoon and the rest of the Alouettes snapped up, but at least something with carpeting and nice wallpaper.

So who’s being nice enough to let the Ti-Cats out of its cage? Well after the wheels came off in Toronto last year, losing two of three games to their provincial counterparts, there’s always a chance of a repeat. The Don is out of town now and replaced with a head coach that may let K-Jo run an offense that helps him regain his MVP-form in Saskatchewan. Perhaps the new coach will be allowing him to play without having to dip his shoes in concrete pre-snap to ensure he won’t stray from the pocket. With all that being said, the best thing they had going for them last season is currently property of the Kansas City Chiefs. So the uncertainty of whether Kerry can carry this team, and whether the question marks on special teams can turn into exclamation points (or atleast semicolons) leaves them a possible candidate to the basement.

If you’ve used the process of elimination, you can figure out the only team left is the Bombers. Stegall would rather put up with hearing Dunnigan talk about barbequeing all weekend then suit up for the Bombers this year. Kevin Glenn is now plying his trade as a backup for the Ti-Cats. After a few moves that surprised more than a few CFL followers, this looks to be a big gamble for the management. But the Bombers seem confident, or atleast enough to insult Saskatchewan. I suppose so I don’t sound too negative about the Bombers I should mention that really appreciate what they did for Canadian beer. Thanks Winnipeg, and I hope you lose enough to make the Ti-Cats seem good by comparison.
